This unique 1957 Mercedes-Benz LF 311 classic fire truck in concours condition is a valuable addition for collectors and vintage vehicle enthusiasts.
It was originally purchased by the in-house fire brigade of Chemische Werke Hüls AG in Herne-Wanne.
The TroSLF 16 by Carl Metz was used as a group fire engine designated LF 16-S (special configuration).
With a different superstructure, it could carry 560 liters of foam compound and 750 kg of powder, making this vehicle especially versatile.
The large loudspeaker on the roof was used for important announcements to plant personnel and the public.
The vehicle remained in active service at Chemische Werke Hüls AG until the late 1980s, after which it was taken over and meticulously restored by the Herne Fire Brigade, “In der Wanne” unit.
