Therefore, for a 750 kg trailer you need a towing vehicle with 750 / 0.3 = 2500 kg unladen weight. If you do not have this, you can have the trailer’s permissible weight reduced (TÜV). For example, if your towing vehicle has an unladen weight of 1600 kg, the trailer must be reduced accordingly: 1600 x 0.3 = 480 kg. You then must manage with the remaining payload for all vehicles and at all speeds. Additionally, the trailer’s permissible total weight may not exceed the maximum unbraked towing capacity (O2) entered in the registration. Note on LED: With some car models, the LED trailer lighting may not function correctly. This occurs most frequently with new car models and is caused by the low power consumption of LED technology. For the lights on the trailer to work properly, the vehicle or tow bar must have an additional module that supports LED lighting. Lorries does not supply this module with production trailers.
