SETRA SG 221HDS/Einzelstück/Messebus/Infobus/n. fahrb.

This SG 221 HDS was originally intended for shuttle service to Southern Europe, but remained a unique prototype. Nevertheless, it effectively served as the foundation for two other special high-deckers: the S 215 HDS and the S 216 HDS, which would soon bring many new customers to Kässbohrer. Additionally, this coach introduced the "S" designation, standing for "Super," as these new high-deckers lived up to that name: with a height of 3.63 meters, the elevated passenger compartment provided even more space, allowing for additional luggage capacity (16 cubic meters) and more service amenities. Additional tanks could also be accommodated with ease. Regardless of which of the two Super-Setras an operator selected, the fascinating engineering aspect of both Ulm-built models was that, except for the front section, they were 100% constructed from the modular components of the 200-series and shared identical fittings with the other Setra touring coaches. The 216 HDS offered space for up to 16 seat rows. In direct comparison, the version with underfloor cockpit provided even more room. With the Setra SG 221 HDS, Kässbohrer had a vision, but the ban on operating articulated coaches for tourist trips through France led the Ulm team to shift focus to non-articulated vehicles. From then on, the SG 221 HDS was used as a demonstration and information vehicle at trade fairs and conferences. With its generously equipped onboard kitchen, it became a central meeting point for representatives and customers.
